PhD POSITIONS in Europe

Eligible applicants have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree and are in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers. This includes the period of research training, starting at the date of obtaining the degree which would formally entitle the eligible candidate to embark on a doctorate either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country of the host organisation. Additionally, at the time of recruitment by the host organisation the successful candidate must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc) in the country of the host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her recruitment. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not taken into account.

Doctoral positions at the Department of Law from 1 September 2012.

A requirement for employment as doctoral student is that the applicant must be admitted to postgraduate studies. To this extent, the applicant’s ability to successfully complete the doctoral studies will be decisive. The regulations governing the employment of doctoral students may be found in Chapter 5, §§ 1-7 of the Higher Education Ordinance.

PhD student positions in mathematics

The duties of a PhD student are primarily directed at his/her own research education, which lasts 4 years. The job may also involve to a limited extent (maximum 20 %) other departmental duties, mainly related to teaching undergraduate courses - in which case the position may be extended to maximum 5 years. The salary level is set by the university regulations. During the first year of studies the principle of 80 % study grant and 20 % assistantship is applied.
