Postgraduate fellowship in Computer Science

Highlights:
1. The School of Computer Science is offering a Welsh medium postgraduate scholarship in Computer Science, funded under the Welsh Medium National Development Scheme, to commence on 1st October 2009.
2. Funding is available for up to five years, including three or four years as a doctoral research student and an additional year as a teaching fellow.The postgraduate scholarship will cover the cost of university tuition fees (at the Home/EU rate of £3300 for 2009/10) and will provide a maintenance grant of £12600 per year. Applications are invited from potential researchers in the broad area of Computer Science, which can include visualisation and modelling. The successful candidate will also be required to undertake some Welsh medium teaching for the School as a condition of the award.

3. The School of Computer Science is part of the University’s College of Physical and Applied Science. It has seven full-time academic members of staff who teach and research in a wide variety of areas, eg Visualisation, Pattern Recognition, Modelling & Simulation.

4. Have achieved at least an upper second-class honours degree or a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field. To be eligible for the award, the individual must be a graduate of a recognised institution of higher education, or an undergraduate expecting to graduate before 31 July 2009. Other qualifications may be considered only exceptionally.* Be a fluent Welsh speaker, although the scholarship holder can undertake further training to improve their competence to teach through the medium of Welsh. The holder of the award may be in a position to undertake research and present the thesis through the medium of Welsh, but this is not a requirement of the Scheme.* Demonstrate the capability and diligence required to complete a PhD by research within the period of the award.* Be in a position to undertake Welsh medium teaching duties for the School from the second year onwards. The holder will be expected to make an important contribution towards Welsh medium teaching and the development of new Welsh medium provision within the school.
5.
