PhD position in Germany 2010

Highlights:

1. Software-based modeling and optimization of energetic and material parameters that are relevant to the carbonization process of organic residues from the biomethane production to biochar Systematic planning and organizing of carbonization experiments using pyrolysis and hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) techniques Physical and chemical characterization of the solid, liquid and gas phase of the carbonization process

2. Our APECS-team has 16 members including three postdocs and four PHD positions.

3. The goal is to develop a hybrid process for combined fermentative production of biomethane and thermochemical production of biochar.

4. Biomethane is a versatile energy source, whereas biochar is designated to be used as a carbon-storing high-value soil additive.

5. For our new team of young researchers APECS - “Anaerobic pathways to renewable energies and carbon sinks” funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Germany) we seek to appoint two PhD Students (m/f).
6. Determination of the energy and mass balance of the carbonization process

Investigations on the activation of biochar and its use as an absorber for minerals associated with the biomethane production

7. Development and testing of process models for the prediction of the biochar’s characteristics with the focus on its absorptive capacity

8. Our Offer: Interdisciplinary work in a young and ambitious research team

The chance to create and develop your own methods and solutions in a promising field of research and application Various national and international networks for your academic progress

9. A supportive environment for your PhD with tight relations to several local universities in the capital region of Berlin and Brandenburg
