Highlights:
- A post-doctoral position is available immediately in the Laboratory of Dr. Gomes-Solecki, Department of Molecular Sciences, University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center,
- Work in our laboratory focuses on developing oral vaccine delivery vehicles using commensal bacteria (Lactobacillus spp.) capable of inducing protective immune responses against microbial pathogens or allergens.
- A major goal is to dissect the immunological mechanisms by which an effective oral vaccine breaks the oral tolerance of the gut. One pertinent project relates to the development of an oral vaccine against peanut allergies.
- Another relates to the development of oral vaccines against spirochetal diseases, such as Lyme disease and Leptospirosis. Other projects relate to understanding the pathogenesis of Burkholderia pseudomallei and other select agents of biodefense interest. Expertise in molecular biology (real time PCR, cloning, etc), biochemistry (chromatography) and tissue culture techniques is required. Expertise in immunology is desirable. A PhD in Biology, Biochemistry or related field, MD (Medical Doctor) or DVM (Veterinary Doctor) is required.
