One precondition for innovation and enterprise is the study and application of basic physical and chemical phenomena as well as the integration of new, often multidisciplinary technologies, methods and tools. Core knowledge areas include energy technology, industrial design and innovation, product and production development, materials development, micro and nano technology as well as industrial economics, organization and management.

  1. Subject area: Energy Technology with specialization in Sustainable Urban Energy Systems
  2. Subject description: The subject is focussing on technologies and systems for efficient and long term sustainable transformation of energy to services and functions with a special focus on urban environments. The subject includes developments of methods for modelling of systems for efficient and sustainable energy utilization. The subject also covers cross-disciplinary integration of technical aspects with business economics and effective energy management as well as questions about development of new business models for energy services.
  3. Eligibility requirements: Persons eligible for employment as Assistant Professor are those who have been awarded a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent with a PhD degree. Priority will be given to those having graduated with a PhD degree not more than five years ago. Also those having graduated earlier ought to be considered with priority if there are special reasons.
  4. Assessment criteria: Of great importance for the position is proven experience in modeling of energy systems within the built environment, the economic analysis of these systems, as well as technical competence in energy system components. Of importance for the position is the applicant's ability to contribute to teaching in the subject in undergraduate and postgraduate education. When recruited, particular attention will be given to the applicant's ability to independently initiate and conduct research of high scientific quality, published in leading international publications, and the applicant's ability to obtain external funding for their research. In the evaluation, the candidate's ability to establish and develop partnerships in education and research will be considered. The candidate's ability to establish an independent research will be assessed.

Assessment criteria for promotion from assistant professor to associate professor: The applicant’s ability to independently initiate and conduct research of high scientific quality, published in international journals, and the applicant’s ability to attract funding for research activities. A specific evaluation criterion is the applicant’s ability to independently establish cooperation and research directions as well as to lead pedagogical development work.
  7. Form of employment: The position extends to a maximum of four years, and may be renewed one year if teaching has amounted to more than 25 % of working time. The position is part of the KTH Tenure Track-system. Employment as an Assistant Professor gives the possibility to apply for a permanent position as Associate Professor.
