Doctoral fellowship in Biomedical science

Highlights:

  1. PhD position available in the Institute of Health & Welfare Research at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland, UK.
  2. The Institute brings together interdisciplinary research within biomedical science, allied health care professions and social sciences. The PhD studentship is aligned with the strategic research themes of the institute; Cardiovascular & Metabolic Disease, Environmental & Occupational Health and Neurological & Mental Health.
  3. The design, synthesis and evaluation of selective, non-invasive imaging agents for atherosclerotic plaque (REF IHW8)
  4. The project will involve the use of both solid and solution phase organic chemistry.
  5. All compounds will be fully characterised (e.g. NMR, Mass Spec., IR) and evaluated as site specific agents using biological screening systems. Experience of chemistry projects that interface with biology would be an advantage, but not essential. For further details of the project please contact Dr Graeme Kay (g.kay@rgu.ac.uk).
  6. Candidates should be highly motivated with a strong commitment to academic research. A First Class, or a 2.1 Honours Degree (or equivalent) or a Masters Qualification in a relevant discipline is required. Relevant professional experience will also be considered.

  7. Each studentship provides full university fees for UK/EU applicants and a tax-free maintenance allowance of £13,590 per annum for 3 years.
  8. The studentship is available to start in October 2010.
