Research Associate (Postdoctoral) Position

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position at University College London (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/) working on addressing the above urgent and highly industrially relevant issue. In particular, the project will focus on the development of mathematical tools backed by independent experimental validation for predicting the pipeline design and operating requirements for the safe pressurised transportation of the captured CO2 for subsequent offshore subsea storage. It is widely recognised that the large-scale Capture and Storage of CO2 (Artical) as an effective means of tackling the effects of global warming cannot be realised without a pipeline network that is economic, safe and efficient.
Applicants must have a relevant PhD degree in Engineering or Applied Mathematics involving mathematical modelling work. Applicants should also have expertise in computational fluid dynamics, particularly multiphase flows, material science, computer programming and preferably, some practical experience. Funding is available for 20 Months. The appointment is on UCL Grade 7 within the salary range of £28,839 to £31,513 p.a (plus £2,781 London Allowance p.a.) depending on qualifications and experiences. The appointment may be extended for a further year depending on applicant's performance and funding availability.
The post will be available from 1 Oct 2009 although applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
