Position in Power Engineering

  1. Applications are invited for the position of Energy Australia Chair of Power Engineering in the Schoolof Electrical and Information Engineering at the University of Sydney. The position is sponsored by Energy Australia due to an increased demand for power engineers and carries with it the role of Director of the Power Engineering Program and Power Systems Laboratory.
  2. This is an opportunity to lead the School's undergraduate and graduate education programs in Power Engineering, ensuring to respond to the needs of the energy industry and to attract high-quality students.
  3. You will initiate research funding proposals, as well as leading research projects in Power Engineering, and develop national and international collaborations. You will also establish and maintain strong links with the local energy industry through project work and consultancies. It is expected that you will create a financially self-sufficient research program within three years of the appointment.
  4. The scope of the position encompasses any methods and techniques relevant to power engineering, including systems planning, power network management, the design, research, construction, and operation of power apparatus, structures, materials and systems for the safe, reliable and economic generation, transmission, distribution, conversion, measurement, control and management of electric energy. Of particular interest are the areas of power system management and control, power system dynamics, sustainable power systems, network performance, condition monitoring, system reliability, power system operation, asset management and power electronics.
  5. You will be expected to serve as Head of School as required and will work closely with the staff of the School's other research laboratories.

Remuneration Package: A competitive salary (which includes a base salary Professor E, leave loading, up to 17% employer's contribution to superannuation from the University) will be negotiated with the successful applicant. Assistance with relocation may also be provided. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of appointment for new appointees.
  12. Tenure: The position is full-time continuing (tenured) and may be subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation.
