Lecturer in Medicinal Chemistry at University of Sydney

  3. Professor Trevor Hambley will assume the role of Dean of Science on the 12 July 2010. He runs a very substantial research program that currently includes postdoctoral staff, ten PhD students and two Honours students and is supported by ARC Discovery Grant funding. An experienced researcher is required to assist with the supervision of the research students and the execution of the ARC research grant.
  4. This is a career opportunity to contribute to teaching and to be a member of academic staff in the school where your primary duties will be to conduct research and assist Professor Hambley in the management of his research program and research group.
  5. You will be required to have substantial expertise in the areas of chemistry, biochemistry, and/or biology that are related to Professor Hambley's group, such as you will have a PhD in Chemistry or closely-related discipline. Specific experience in the synthesis of peptides and their attachment to fluorophores or other compounds or experience in the application of peptides in a pharmaceutical setting are essential.
  6. Expertise in protease chemistry or biochemistry will be highly regarded. You will also be required to have advanced skills in research training and supervision including OH&S management, the writing of research grants and research papers, and other duties associated with a teaching and research academic role.
  7. The position is initially full-time fixed term for one year subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees with the possibility of further offers of employment of up to four years. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.
  8. Remuneration package: A$94,802 - A$112,575 pa (consisting of a base salary at level B, leave loading and up to 17% employer's contribution to superannuation).
  9. Some assistance towards relocation cost and visa sponsorship may be available for the successful appointee if required and level of appointment will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
