Post-doctoral research statistician in forestry

Applications are invited for a Post doctoral Research Statistician for the Research Programme: Planning and implementation of sustainable forest management - PLANSFM. The main objective of the PLANSFM programme is to improve access to better quality information about the forest through the development of new inventory and analysis tools and improved software to support sustainable forest management decisions. The key issues addressed are improvements in private and state forestry: multi-resource inventory protocols, decision support tools, improved modelling of forest growth and yield and improved forest volume assessment. In addition, the programme addresses carbon sequestration in Irish forests and climate change, also the need for access to the results of previous forestry research trials, bringing added value to existing data and ensuring the continued maintenance and assessment of existing, relevant experimental sites. The purpose of the post is to strengthen the research capability of the PLANSFM forestry research programme by providing statistical advice to its researchers, analyse field trials and to assist in the development of growth-yield models and carbon sequestration in forestry. The work will build on the results of previous research, reviewing the design of field trials and analysing data. There will also be opportunities to develop research interests that lie within the aims of the PLANSFM programme. The post-doctoral statistician will report to the Principle Investigator Prof. Maarten Nieuwenhuis. The post-doctoral Statistician position will be funded for three years. Travel and subsistence costs are paid for field and other visits.Salary: €35,000 - €40,000 pa. See http://www.ucd.ie/vacancies for more details.
