Postdoctoral Position in Synthetic Chemistry/Chemical Biology

Postdoctoral Fellow University of Aarhus Denmark

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Center for Oxygen Microscopy and Imaging at the University of Aarhus. A key aspect of our program involves the study of reactive oxygen species, particularly singlet molecular oxygen, at the single cell level. One goal of this program is to better understand mechanisms of singlet-oxygen-induced cell death. Much of this work involves the development and use of sensitizers and/or probe molecules that can be incorporated into cells in different ways. To this end, we have current need for someone with the interest and expertise to synthesize organic and bio-organic molecules that will be used in optical experiments to probe the intracellular behavior of singlet oxygen. Applicants should have a strong background in standard organic and bio-organic synthetic procedures. Although experience with (a) the preparation and handling of biological samples and (b) issues pertinent to the sub-cellular localization of a non-endogenous molecule could be advantageous, we offer the qualified synthetic chemist an opportunity to learn the pertinent skills and information. The ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team is required. In turn, the successful applicant will participate in a facile iterative process wherein molecules that have been synthesized will be rapidly tested in in-house intracellular experiments. The application should consist of a CV, a description of scientific accomplishments, a publications list, and the names and e-mail addresses of people who can provide a letter of reference.
This material should be submitted, preferably via e-mail, to Peter R. Ogilby, Department of Chemistry, University of Aarhus, DK-8000 Ã…rhus, Denmark (progilby@chem.au.dk).
