A postdoctoral position is open immediately on an NIH-funded research project that will study markers of cell proliferation and death in the postmortem prefrontal cerebral cortex. The research will concentrate on glial cells, mainly astrocytes and oligodendrocytes, to explore the immediate causes of recently reported altered numbers of glial cells and their specific proteins in the prefrontal cerebral cortex of alcoholics and depressives. Opportunities to extend our work to animal models exist. The successful candidate will ideally have experience with immunohistochemistry, bright field and fluorescence microscopy, Western blotting and basic molecular biology techniques. This position is fully funded for at least 2 years.
