Our group develops and applies new experimental and computational capabilities to understand cellular and bimolecular processes and phenomena. These capabilities are also used to integrate biomolecular processes, biological principles, biomimetic materials, and biomolecular functions into nano- and microscale systems, thereby deriving fundamental biological understanding. Current capabilities include state-of-the-art imaging of whole cells and proteins, membrane science, materials synthesis, protein engineering, spectroscopic techniques to characterize cellular and molecular modifications, and computational tools for investigating complex biology systems.JOB DESCRIPTION:The postdoctoral appointee will join multidisciplinary teams that are investigating biological and synthetic membrane channels for diverse applications, including water desalination and immune cell response. The postdoc will apply a variety of computational techniques, such as classical MC/MD and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, to probe how structure gives rise to function in membrane channels. The postdoctoral appointee will be expected to work closely with Sandia scientists to conduct a forefront program in biophysics research, which includes publishing, writing grant proposals, and presenting research at national society conferences.QUALIFICATIONS:Candidates must have a recent Ph.D. degree (conferred within the last five years) in biophysics, chemistry, physics, biochemical/chemical engineering, or a related field. Applicants must also have extensive experience in theoretical and computational chemistry and biophysics. Candidates must have exceptional records of accomplishment in theoretical biophysics/chemistry/physics, preferably involving the application of statistical mechanics and computer simulation methods to biomolecular systems. Although this position does not require a security clearance by the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. citizenship is highly desired.Apply at: http://www.sandia.gov/employment/career-opp/.
