Bangor University 125th Anniversary Research Scholarships

Highlights:
1. We are pleased to announce the next stage of our major postgraduate expansion campaign, 125th Anniversary Research Scholarships. A huge number of people have responded to our announcement, so we apologise for the slight delay in moving forward.
2. Fifty PhD studentships and bursaries, spread across all six of our Colleges. They are open to Home/EU and International students. Whilst some are targeted at particular research specialisms, there are flexible opportunities in a very wide range of subject areas. Further opportunities will be announced later in the year.
3. The scholarships provide opportunities to the very best students, nationally and internationally, to work with the University’s leading academics and rising international research stars. They also provide opportunities to develop a variety of both academic and transferable skills, which should substantially enhance your career prospects.
4. Successful applicants for the prestigious 125 Studentships receive a maintenance grant and pay no fees. The bursaries provide a lower level of support.

Research StudentshipsThe Vice-Chancellor’ s full-time research studentships at Thames Valley University

Highlights:
1. Thames Valley University (TVU) is among just three London universities to climb 17 places or more in the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008. To celebrate TVU’s performance in the RAE2008 and strengthen our research student base, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter John is pleased to announce a number of research scholarships, ranging from Art and Design to Nursing.
2. The scholarships will cover full UK/EU tuition fees and provide a maintenance allowance of £15,290 per annum for up to three years, subject to satisfactory progress.
3. Applications are invited from suitably qualified students to commence study in September 2009.
4. You should hold or expect to be awarded a 2 (i) Hons degree or above. A Master’s degree in an appropriate subject area is desirable. Those candidates whose first language is not English must demonstrate evidence of appropriate English language proficiency, normally defined as a minimum IELTS score of 7. In addition to their PhD studies, duties will include up to 6 hours per week (during term time) assisting with teaching on appropriate modules.

Postdoctoral Fellow: Protein Adsorption / Ellipsometry

Highlights:
1. We are currently looking for a research associate to work in a new NIH-funded project focused on the new and exciting area of Interaction of Proteins with Nanomaterials.
2. Emphasis is placed on (but not limited to) design of biosensors, drug delivery devices, and biocompatible materials.
3. The candidate (who must have a solid background in adsorption of proteins and/or ellipsometry) will be involved in the study of adsorption of proteins to different surfaces using a brand new variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometer (WVASE32, from Woollam).
4. Salary will be adjusted according to experience and productivity. An additional comprehensive benefits package is provided to complement the salary. The position will remain open until filled. ONLY CANDIDATES RELEVANT EXPERIENCE WILL BE CONSIDERED.

International Ph.D. ProgramsLife Sciences

Highlights:
1. The Life Science Zurich Graduate School consists of nine highly competitive Ph.D. programs, run jointly by the ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich.
2. Each program offers research and education opportunities in a stimulating international environment for ambitious students who wish to work towards a Ph.D. degree.
3. Accepted students perform their research project in one of the participating research groups of their favorite program, according to their scientific interest.
4. Advanced teaching and training courses are offered throughout the curriculum. The program language is English throughout. Ph.D. studies usually last 3-4 years.

Requirements:
Applicants must hold or anticipate receiving a Master’s degree or equivalent from a university in a relevant field before starting the Ph.D. program.

Applicants accepted for the program will have to register with either the University of Zurich or ETH Zurich, depending on the affiliation of their future research group.
