Doctoral positions in coordination chemistry in Germany

Highlights:

1. Doctoral position is available in chemistry in the field of nanosized chelators for electrochemistry of redox proteins

3. Our research group is part of the Center for Electrochemical Sciences (CES) at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung in Düsseldorf.
4. The research in our group is focused on the electron transfer between redox proteins and elec-trodes with applications in bioelectrocatalysis, bioelectronics, biosensors, biofuelcells, and nanobiotechnology.
5. The present research project is based on the coordination properties of supramolecular chelators to achieve specific recognition and orientation of a redox enzyme on conducting surfaces. Hydrogenases will be used as the enzyme for applications in photohydro-gen production and biofuelcells.

Doctoral and postdoctoral position in plant evolution

Highlights:

1.      3-yr Ph.D position is avaliable (or a part-time post-doctoral assistantship) to study the origin and evolution of island endemics in the Mediterranean Region.

2.      Eligibility: Demonstrated experience in molecular, phylogenetic and flow-cytometry methods and/or ecological niche modeling will be highly valued in the selection process. Excellent knowledge of the English language, written and oral, required. Familiarity with additional European languages would be useful for fieldwork in the Mediterranean Region and living in Switzerland.

Doctoral fellowship in Biomedical science

Highlights:

1. PhD position available in the Institute of Health & Welfare Research at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland, UK.
2. The Institute brings together interdisciplinary research within biomedical science, allied health care professions and social sciences. The PhD studentship is aligned with the strategic research themes of the institute; Cardiovascular & Metabolic Disease, Environmental & Occupational Health and Neurological & Mental Health.
3. The design, synthesis and evaluation of selective, non-invasive imaging agents for atherosclerotic plaque (REF IHW8)
4. The project will involve the use of both solid and solution phase organic chemistry.
5. All compounds will be fully characterised (e.g. NMR, Mass Spec., IR) and evaluated as site specific agents using biological screening systems. Geological Survey of Norway, 2 PhD Positions available

Highlights:

1. Applications for PhD positions are invited for an EU funded programme at the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU), including secondments to industrial and university partners. Two positions are available starting from October 2010.
2. This project forms part of the EU funded Marie Curie Initial Training Network "CASE - The changing Arctic and Sub-Arctic environment: A research and training programme on marine biotic indicators of recent climate changes in the high latitudes of the North Atlantic" (http://caseitn.epoc.u-bordeaux1.fr). The two PhD positions are for 36 months duration each.
3. Requirements and Training: To be eligible for these positions you must hold a Master of Science/Diploma or equivalent in marine geology and/or marine geochemistry and an appropriate education in physical sciences and an appropriate qualification in the English language. Experiences in the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), of visualization tools, and in seismic interpretation is desirable. Full training in the scientific background to the project will be given, and there will also be the opportunity to participate in a variety of complementary skills training programmes offered as part of the CASE network. There will also be the opportunity to travel to and take part in events at other sites within the network.

Since the contractor is a Norwegian Research Institute, candidates from EU member states, Associated Countries (except Norway) and eligible International Cooperation Partner Countries are invited to apply for these two positions. Please note that candidates must not have been resident in Norway for more than 12 months in the past 3 years.
