Postdoctoral position in genomics

Highlights:

1. We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher for the Portuguese partners of

ERA NET Plant Genomics Genome Research Assisted breeding for Sustainable Production of quality GRAPES and WINE (GRASP GRAPE WINE) to be developed at Instituto de Ciência Aplicada e Tecnologia, BioFIG Center, Science

2. Faculty of University of Lisbon, Lisboa (Portugal), at Pharmacy Faculty,

University of Barcelona (Spain) and at Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Lisboa (Portugal).

3. The fellowship will be granted by FCT– Foundation for Science and Technology

- and co-supported by the European Social Fund and the Ministry of Science and Technology and Higher Education.

5. One of the purposes of the research is the analysis of the role played by

polyamines in grape ripening.

6. It is also an aim of the project the identification of the genes involved

in grapevine (Trincadeira) response to biotic stress.

7. These data will be complemented with results on metabolic profiling obtained in collaboration with international partners.

8. The main tasks focus on:

- Quantification of polyamines in berries at different developmental

stages;

- Performance of infection assays in berries of Trincadeira;

- Transcript profiling during berry development and ripening of Trincadeira grapes upon fungi attack

using DNA microarray technology and real time-PCR;

9. The candidate should have a PhD in Plant Sciences. The candidate must have

strong skills in molecular biology in particular on analysis of gene expression, gene cloning, real time-PCR and use of bioinformatics tools.

10. Candidates presenting experience also on plant physiology will be preferential.

11. The applicant must be able to conduct independent research and collaborate

with other group members, in Portugal and abroad.

12. The position is available for 12 months from the 1stof January of 2010.

Postdoctoral position in "Developmental control of microspore embryogenesis in bread wheat double haploid production"

Highlights:

1. Plant microspores can be switched from their normal pollen developmental pathway towards an embryogenic route.

2. The application of a stress treatment is necessary for the reprogramming of microspores leading to an intermediate stage of dedifferentiation and cell totipotency.

3. Under appropriate culture conditions, the microspore starts proliferation and a cell fate developmental program to embryogenesis.

4. Our aim is to gain a better understanding of the developmental regulation of the microspore embryogenesis process, to identify target genes and to perform an integrate analysis that allow us the improvement of tools for double haploid production programs. Previous experience on gene expression analysis, Real time PCR and in situ hybridization will be valued.

Postdoctoral positions 2010

Highlights:

1. Postdoctoral positions (259 position) are available JAE/DOC 2009, (for a term of 36 months), available for specialization at a CSIC centre or Institute.

2. The starting salary for JAE/DOC 2009 is 28.902.96 per year.

3. Selected candidates can expect to start within three months from the date of publication of the list of eligible candidates.
