Research position for postgraduate 2011 at South African

Highlights:

1. The South African Research Chair in Property Law has the following positions available for full-time postgraduate research students in Property Law for 2011:

Full-time LLD (3 years): 4

Full-time LLM (2 years): 4

2. Requirements to qualify for one of these positions:
3. For the LLM positions you have to be in the final year of your LLB degree (four year or postgraduate) in 2010, scheduled to complete the degree at the end of 2010. For the LLD positions you must already hold an LLM degree or be scheduled to complete it by the end of 2010.
4. South African citizens will be preferred.
5. Students must be willing and able to study full-time and to live and work in Stellenbosch. Work space is provided on the premises of the Research Chair in the Law Faculty.
6. Special interest in Property Law is required. Students who completed Property Law electives in their LLB or who did an LLM in Property Law will be preferred.
7. 
   Special language skills (German, French, Italian, isiXhosa) is an advantage.
8. Good computer skills (including MSWord and Internet) are required.
9. Students from cultural, linguistic and social minorities are especially invited to apply. At least 50% of successful applicants will be selected from those groups.
10. Successful applicants will be required to:
11. Live in Stellenbosch and work full-time in the Research Chair offices, from the middle of January until the middle of December, for the duration of the study period.
12. Attend and participate in research skills and further seminars on Property Law every week during the first and second semester (altogether 50 seminars hours).
13. Attend one business meeting (1 hour) of the research group every two weeks throughout the year, where research projects are discussed.
14. Work (on your own schedule) on a research project of the research group for 17 hours per week. Projects include topics such as neighbour law, servitudes, foreign case law, IP, housing, land law and others.
15. Work on their own postgraduate research project for the rest of the week.
16. Participate in other activities of the Research Group, including attending conferences etc.
17. Training, supervision and research facilities are provided. In return for your involvement we will:
18. Provide you with specialized training in Property Law.
19. Teach you advanced research skills, including internet research skills.
20. Provide a workspace in the Research Group facility in the Law Faculty.
21. Provide a laptop computer and Property Law books.
22. Pay a research bursary of R80 000 (LLD) or R50 000 (LLM) per annum, provided you satisfy the NRF requirements. The bursary is paid into your student account in a single sum in April.
23. Provide a research assistantship of R60 000 per annum, paid in monthly installments.
