Postdoctoral position at University of Georgia

Highlights:

The University of Georgia is seeking a highly-motivated full-time postdoctoral research associate to develop a high-throughput transformation and regeneration system for American chestnut trees.
The successful candidate will work as a team member in the UGA School of Forestry and Natural Resources as part of a multi-institutional project applying biotechnology for American chestnut restoration.
The incumbent will design and conduct laboratory experiments in the area of somatic embryogenesis and efficient production of transgenic trees.
Responsibilities include data collection and analysis, preparation of reports, manuscripts and presentations and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.
Minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. in plant biology, horticulture, forestry or related area and publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Expertise in woody plant tissue culture is preferred and experience with plant molecular biology techniques will be considered positively. This appointment is for a fixed term of one year with renewal possible. A PhD position in Mathematical Physics

Highlights:

A PhD position in Mathematical Physics (Quantum gravity) will be available in the Emmy Noether research group: Conceptual Questions of Quantum Gravity and Mathematical Structures in Three-dimensional Gravity.
The starting date is June 2010 (or later). The successful applicant will work on a project related to three-dimensional (quantum) gravity in the framework of the group's research programme under supervision of Dr. Catherine Meusburger.

Postdoctoral position in Molecular Sciences

Highlights:

A post-doctoral position is available immediately in the Laboratory of Dr. Gomes-Solecki, Department of Molecular Sciences, University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, Memphis, USA (http://www.uthsc.edu/molecular_sciences/directories/faculty/m_gomes.php).
Work in our laboratory focuses on developing oral vaccine delivery vehicles using commensal bacteria (Lactobacillus spp.) capable of inducing protective immune responses against microbial pathogens or allergens.
A major goal is to dissect the immunological mechanisms by which an effective oral vaccine breaks the oral tolerance of the gut. One pertinent project relates to the development of an oral vaccine against peanut allergies.
Another relates to the development of oral vaccines against spirochetal diseases, such as Lyme disease and Leptospirosis. Other projects relate to understanding the pathogenesis of Burkholderia pseudomallei and other select agents of biodefense interest. Expertise in molecular biology (real time PCR, cloning, etc), biochemistry (chromatography) and tissue culture techniques is required. Expertise in immunology is desirable. A PhD in Biology, Biochemistry or related field, MD (Medical Doctor) or DVM (Veterinary Doctor) is required.
