Postdoctoral position in radiology / radiopharmaceutical

Highlights:
  1. The University of Missouri-Columbia invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Radiology. The candidate will make important contributions in the area of radiopharmaceutical sciences in developing new targeting vectors that bind with high specificity to molecular entities that are uniquely or over-expressed on cancer cells.
  2. These targeting vectors will serve as the basis to develop radiolabeled cancer specific molecular imaging or therapeutic agents. The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field, and significant experience in radiopharmaceutical synthesis, biochemistry, and molecular biology.
  3. Candidates should possess excellent analytical and English communication skills.
  4. Candidates should send a curriculum vitae, a description of their research interests, and three letters of reference to: C. Jeffrey Smith, Associate Professor and Research Health Scientist, Department of Radiology, DC069.10, University of Missouri Healthcare, One Hospital Drive, Columbia, Missouri 65212; telephone 573-814-6000 extension 53683; fax 573-882-1663; e-mail: smithcj@health.missouri.edu.

Postdoctoral Research position in Materials Science

Highlights:
1.      POSITION AS POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP available at Centre for Materials Science, the inGAP centre of research-based innovation and the Department of Chemistry, University of Oslo, Norway. For more informations, see:
www.smn.uio.no, www.ingap.uio.no, www.kjemi.uio.no.
2.      The fellowship period is 2 years.
3.      The position is financed by the KOSK II programme of the Research Council of Norway on the project Quantum modelling studies of local coordination of T-atoms in Zeotype materials. The main objective of the project is to elucidate the mechanism(s) for diffusion of framework cations in zeotype materials.
4.      Fellowship (ref no 2010/3761)

Doctoral position in Chemistry

Highlights:
  1. This 3.5 year PhD research project is funded by the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC; www.ccdc.cam.ac.uk) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and was awarded by the Chemistry Innovation Knowledge Transfer Network to CCDC in collaboration with the University of Bradford (UoB; www.bradford.ac.uk).
  2. The doctoral student will be based at UoB, which has the relevant expertise and facilities for Crystal Structure Prediction (CSP).  The project encompasses an industrial placement at CCDC.
  3. Many pharmaceuticals are formulated as salts to enhance their physical properties.  The ability to predict the polymorphs of an organic salt from its molecular structure alone would be a first step in computational screening of salt forms, accelerating the drug development process and reducing its costs.  CSP of salts can be difficult because salts have, among other complexities, two independent ions in the crystallographic asymmetric unit which makes searching for potential stable crystal structures time consuming.
  4. Start date: 1 October 2010
  5. Closing date: 11 June 2010

Research Associate position in Synthetic Biology for for 36 months in the first instance

Highlights:
  1. A new Research Associate position is available for 36 months in the first instance to work with Dr Guy-Bart Stan at the new EPSRC Centre for Synthetic Biology and Innovation at Imperial College London. The research project will be responsive to the applicant's research history and interests but will fall broadly into the research goals of the Centre: (i) to build foundational tools for the robust and modular design of synthetic biology circuits and (ii) to derive applications using synthetic biology. The project is also an excellent opportunity for a skilled individual to cross-over into the exciting field of synthetic biology.
  2. Applicants should have a PhD (or equivalent) in either, Applied Mathematics, Theoretical (Bio)physics, Control Engineering, Computational Biology, a closely aligned discipline or an equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience. Previous experience in nonlinear dynamical systems, control, stochastic modelling of gene expression, systems biology, or equivalent research and industrial or commercial experience is desirable. Previous research on synthetic biology is also desirable but is not a requirement.

Doctoral position in chemistry with interest in biology

Highlights:
  1. We are looking for a highly motivated chemist with interest in biology or a biologist with chemical background.
  2. PhD position is available in Research group of Biofunctional Polymer Materials at the University of Heidelberg (Department of Applied Physical Chemistry) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Institute of Toxicology and Genetics).
  3. In our group we use surface, organic and polymer chemistries to create new biomaterials, functional and stimuli-responsive polymer surfaces as well as to develop new cell microarrays and microfluidic devices.
  4. In particular, we work with superhydrophobic/superhydrophilic surfaces and nano-porous polymer materials.
