OCE Postdoctoral Fellowship - Building Biocatalysts by Computational DesignThe Transformational Biology program seeks a postdoctoral candidate to design new biocatalysts in silico. This project will require a large degree of collaboration between several capabilities already present at CSIRO and with international laboratories. The role requires a familiarity with computational algorithms, enzymology and chemistry. The successful candidate will be supported by the enzyme evolution team located at Entomology (Canberra, ACT) and by the structural biology team located at Molecular and Health Technologies (Parkville, Vic) and by the Transformational Biology program. This new technology will be used to develop novel enzymes for a wide range of applications.CSIRO is Australia’s leading research organisation with over 6,500 staff located across the country. Our purpose is to deliver great science and innovative solutions for industry, society and the environment by igniting the creative spirit of our people. The OCE Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme provides an opportunity to undertake postdoctoral research projects aligned with the best research teams across CSIRO. The ability to create an efficient enzyme catalyst for a chemical reaction of choice has been a long-standing but elusive goal in the field of protein design. In particular, a capability for de novo design of enzymes for which there are no known natural prototypes would have application in many different areas, including biomedicine, green chemistry and renewable energy, and especially biofuels. As part of the Transformational Biology team, the Postdoctoral Fellow will develop the technology to design new enzymes in silico, and these enzymes will then be tested for their functional characteristics and structures. The successful applicant may be required to spend significant time learning software/ techniques in laboratories located in the United States as well.Selection Criteria:Applicants must address the selection criteria. Applicants that do not address the selection criteria will not be considered. To assist you prepare your application please read the information available at "Guidelines for Applicants" on the CSIRO web site.1.
