Project hypothesis: Refinements to pharmacokinetic models will improve the physiological validity of the information extracted from DCE-MRI, which will improve the diagnostic information of this technique. Specific objectives: 1- To validate the importance of including diffusion of a contrast agent within the tumor tissue into pharmacokinetic modeling. 2- To determine the optimal approach to obtain high-quality and physiologically relevant DCE-MRI data using complex tissue cultures carried out under bioreactor conditions. 3- To evaluate the performance of an optimized DCE-MRI protocol in a clinical setting. The postdoctorate fellow will have to carry out bioreactor culture experiments to grow blood microvessel networks under bioreactor conditions and will have also to do mathematical modeling of the MRI data obtained with these bioreactor experiments. So, the candidate should have skills in bioreactor operation, in engineering and in mathematics.
